Notes on Valhalla Dancehall by British Sea Power

British sea power... i really dont know much of the band in fact i remember getting the album "do you like rock music?" and i was like bah... they suck...but that was like a year ago and well here we are in the middle of the year and im reviewing albums from winter (cus im slow) but hey who cares about album reviews if they all are opinionized when we can discuss the sounds and other unrelated material eh?

BABY: LOUD DRUMS then soft vocals? acoustic guitar. soft wierd little whale sounds. eh yeah im not too into this album so far it sounds really repetitive. the vocals kinda suck right now. i think maybe too much reverb too many sounds that dont go together is why im not so into this song.
oh my god theres still a minute left? it sounded like it should have ended. its still slow vocals are too soft.

Cleaning out the rooms: well i hear a violin, i hear drums, guitar, and a xylophone i think. the vocals still are too soft. i kinda feel like comparing them to Sigur Ros but i can jam to sigur ros this sounds very plain. yeah i cant understand what hes saying so i hear sigur ros but the sounds dont remind me of them i hear too much going on the vocals being drowned and the violins (an instrument i love) being sucked out of its potential by being raped by the sucky guitar. its starting to calm down...vocals are still soft and getting softer. yeah i like the ending the piano outer-lude if you will. and then it suddly ends?

Georgia ray: well the vocals are finally louder... i guess they switched vocalists. i can hear post rock in this album. i like how this album starts to get thicker and the guitar takes a solo. then as soon as the guy starts singing its thins the music does anyway. and then when the chorus comes it gets louder. wow well im looking at a view of rock before the pixies came around with the loud and soft vocals. theses voices never change loudness.

Heavy water: i like it it sounds alot better has more flow to it the drums are getting louder the vocals are getting better. then at 1:20 it gets thinner and then 1:30 thicker. it sounds pretty much the same afterwards but im not digging this album that much.

living is so easy: i like the wierd sounds in the beginning. i like the flow i dont like the backing vocals though. i like the piano in the background. the chorus is very memorable. not much to say after. the ending is good my favorite part.

luna: i hear coldplay in this song already which annoys me. yeah im hearing a coldplay - travis- U2 thing going on but U2 is stadium rock this is very bland and one dimentional. not liking it.

mongk II: fiinnaally i hear something coming on in the begining with the experimenting. oh yeah its starting to sound better. yeah i can hear lots of elements that make this sound alot bigger and the vocals are getting along with the music. yep i dig this song.

More now: slow beginning. still slow i hear an organ, and its getting louder but its very sad sounding. and it continues...1:52 guitars and drums enter. 2:14 vocals enter. 3:40 drums start to change. it starts to change at 6:50 into this soundscape of woodwinds and guitar instrumentation with a hint of little sounds that sound like wood chimes. and it continues. and it continues. he hums. its starting to die then the guy says last words.

observe the skies: same sounds as the songs before loud drums non changing loudness in vocals the guitars are changing though. i like the piano.

Stunde null: i like the guitars its good and it starts to speed up syncronizing with the drums i like the slight hint of creepiness in this song i like the speed. i like the song best song so far.

thin black sail: yes yes finally i hear something different i like the punk style guitars. the fact he mentions psychedelic and the slight hints of evilness. the reverb fits the speed is perfect he starts to shout which is a change. i love this song.

We are sound: this is a good song its like an inbetween to the last two songs and the rest of the album. i like the medium speed i like the guitars how loud they are.

Whos in control: i hear modern rock in this song already. i hear the Vaccines. i love it i love it. i hear a change in vocal loudness. the guitars squeiling then the man squeiling ha yeah i love this song already. i hear the vaccines in this song but its too repetitive in the music to be the vaccines.

overall this album is slow and soft with the exceptions of the last four or five songs. i kinda dont like it but i do. i recommend it only if your into the britpop brit-rock scenes but if your into american stuff like weezer and the smashing pumpkins dont try it or you will smash this album to pieces. does pre-indie still live? maybe so.
