2011 in music.

Was it a good year in music or a bad year?
Well in new music (debuts and sophomore albums and 3rd albums) it was an awesome year. For the old bands eh it was not so great. Let's review what happened this year in the indie/alternative rock side of the spectrum.

Let's go to the start:
Ok earlier this month I put out a poll asking what genre is gonna blow up in 2012. There was 4 choices and two of them were genres that were already big and I put em up to see how smart you all were...and it turns out the two flukes were chosen instead of the two "new" genres that are sure to blow up. Indie rock was in first followed by Alternative Rock then Chillwave and Dubstep last.
It essentially became Chillwave vs. Dubstep and me being more of a Chillwave fan I rooted for that genre. So far Dubstep has exploded this year and pop acts like Rihanna even adopted this sound.

In the world of music acts, newer bands became a lot more successful instead of the older more experienced fellows. It's a sad but true reality and sure foster the people will never beat radiohead one on one but their 'torches' beat out 'the king of limbs' on the charts and on radio play and TKOL probably had lotus flower playing for about two weeks while pumped up kicks ruled the airways for a summers end and they still play it. This is how it was for so many music acts this year the artists with 4+ albums got beat with people just debuting or releasing the third album. The older bands also changed their style for the not so good while some of the newer acts blew it up with radical newer sounding music.

The best new music is coming from surf pop and indie pop which is great stuff don't mention Chillwave either which is also on the rise. Just by raw statistics I'm pretty sure surf pop and Chillwave are gonna blow up.

In other news music in America was on the rise gaining international attention and that's for once after not much fuss before, music in the European world was on the rise too and even confusing some Americans claiming yuck were an American alternative rock band. Hahah. Also Alternative rock is slowly coming back with releases like Yuck and Dye it Blonde, Share The Joy and What Did You Expect From the Vaccines? Overall though indie isnt leaving anytime soon. The genre that is getting weaker is the Electronic genre with Dubstep skrewing things over and its actually a step backwards from where music should be going. Serioulsy Dubstep is crappity crap and the Electronics are very shitty making it seem anyone can grab a laptop and make Dubstep to me Dubstep is dead and it shall have died this year if anyone says oh yeah Dubstep is totally gonna blow up next year direct them to this page and tell em to listen to some chillwave or punk rock to get out of the habit of listening to this series of crappy Glitch Bass sound effects and anyway once any genre becomes really big that isnt intended to thats when the genre dies if it branches of into a new subgenre or influences another genre then that genre becomes that much better. OVERALL musically this year has been great and let's keep it up next year huh?
