Notes on El Camino By The Black Keys

Blam! wooo! I'm sorry but I'm listening to the debut album and thanks to that I'm gonna review this album. They did say that it would be a lot like their earlier stuff. I also heard they were in Westport in Kansas City just a few days ago so I'm pretty excited hearing they came back and that they're in Missouri and not Kansas (no offence Kanrocksas) but when i first heard the album i was excited. This is after the brothers album which i love but ehm you know its chunked full of pop and you know it be sad to see them not do blues influenced rock. I also got into Led Zeppelin who also are Blues influenced so that might affect the review a bit. Well I'm done just talking so here's the track review. If you get pissed off read the whole article because I'm not out to piss people off. And look for the Highlighted songs of the album here

1. Lonely Boy: The harder guitar sure does give a punch. OK so this song has the similar guitar as the early stuff but the vocals are just like brothers.  The vocals in their early work was a lot less smooth and it was rougher around the edges. It is still one of the best tracks on this album.
2. Dead and Gone: Still don't see the early sound in this song but i do see some similarities in Brothers. The music is similar to The Go Getter on Brothers. In my opinion not much has changed from Brothers other than more layers and harder guitar.

3. Gold on the Ceiling: Yup like i said before the reoccurring Brothers elements is still heard the guitars are just louder and a lot more enthusiastic and frankly more funkified. The Keyboard is really great at certain parts but i think the song would sound less Brothers oriented without it.

4. Little Black Submarines: This is my favorite song because it starts off acoustic and torward the end it gets Hard, Loud, and Really Really Awesome. The vocals/lyrics are really good and that's one thing that the black keys are always good at lyrics. Really if you like good progression listen to this song all the way through and don't blame me if you have tears in your eyes in the first half but your dancing in the last part.

5. Money Maker: Thick will be used to describe the intro and also loud. The lyrics speak to you you may be poor but there's always that girl who has money you want her but you cant get her cus shes up the social ladder and the Black Keys agree or at least Dan Does. He makes you feel the same way.

6. Run Right Back: The guitar is on a higher octave and the drums are a little louder. The bass line is very smooth and it rocks you. The vocals are just as catchy.

7. Sister: The bass is great and the groove makes you wanna stand up and move really. They still have the Brothers feel again but at this point i really don't care whether they sound like the old times.

8. Hell of a Season: *Chink Chink Chink* in the words of my jazz teacher that's how the guitar sounds. In case your wondering that's what my jazz band teacher says to me when I'm playing to fast he tells me its supposed to go chink chink, chink chink chink. Well anyway the Beat is exactly like how I'm supposed to play guitar on Brouhaha.

9. Stop Stop: "Yeah you Gotta Stop Stop" OK right now the guitar  finally gained the old feel to it and that's mainly because i don't hear the keyboard that you can hear on brothers.

10. Nova Baby: BANG BANG BANG!!! Nice Start to the drumming. This is my second favorite song after Little Black Subs. The lyrics are very uplifting and if your having a bad day you just need to play this on repeat and you'll feel better.

11. Mind Eraser: The last song is the most similar to the debut. The vocals are just like it the guitar is just as rugged as a teen in the morning after a rough sleepless night. the song eats you and the lyrics talk about trying to get over this girls.

VERDICT: nope. it doesn't sound like the old albums but when  they said it was supposed to i was like " no its not" i was right there is no way in hell that would happen that's like saying "radiohead will go back to the days when they had ripping guitars instead of like the dubstep/electronica they're doing now" no they wouldn't go back and you shouldn't expect them to because they will do what they want all you can do is listen to music like that or make a band that sounds like that and make it happen but whats done is done let the Black Keys do what they want and don't call them sell outs if you don't like the direction they're going. It doesn't matter this album is great and i think the harder guitar on it makes you move and if that doesn't make a good album i don't know what does. it is totally worth buying and going to the concert for so save up cus they're going on tour.posted from Bloggeroid
