Notes on in the mountain in the cloud by portugal. the man

yeah yeah yeah im late. so what? alright i got this album along with a few others and i listened to em. This album is great its an amazing album and to tell you the truth it is my favorite by them to date (satanic satinist is close second and american ghetto third) i saw some review of this already most of the reviewers were hipsters of course so none of them really are valid. and one was by one of the worst music critics of all time. ew all these album reviews made me want to puke thats why i invented the reinvented system of reviewing. without further fluffing of words i give you Portugal. The Man:

So American: the intro. the beeping the oh so gentle beeping, it gives way to the soothing acoustic guitar and the soft electric guitar in the background on high reverb. oh such amazing vocals, bass and drums join in and the string symphony begins. this songis very catchy its a great song to travel to i can imagine going on a road trip and passing by huge mountains in alsaka and wondering whats inside of them whats in the mountain and just enjoying the giagantic monalith and listening to this song.

Floating (Time isn't Working My Side): "oh oh oooooohh oh oh ooooooohh" the begining has grand vocal thickness lots of people singing drums banging. just imagine floating on the river of eternity with weird creatures poping here and there looking at you and feeling a slight chill going down your spine. kinda when you wake up and spiders are running down your chest and you shake em off.

Got it All (This Can't Be Living Now): so this is the first single of the album? the vocals are really high and i cant tell whether its good or not. but i do know one thing the sounds produced in this song is very good i am being bombarded by these sounds coming from various instruments. the chorus is so catchy and i hear the "normal" vocals again. there is alot of stuff going on its amazing its like an atomic bomb of music lots of energy, movement, thickness.
Seems to me this song ends to quickly though.

Senseless: i like the heavy drive in this song i really do. its heavy and it reminds me of the flaming lips. the vocals are supurb as expected, and i here more than one voice so there is a thickness to it when i listen to it closer i dont here as many instruments as 'got it all' but it has the same effect. with this band ive noticed that they have the dreamy type feel on this album and i think its manly due in part to the reverb the thick vocals and the heavy drive i love it cus not many bands feel alive like they do.

Head is a Flame (Cool With It): the lyrics are weird i can hear a slight flange in the vocals and guitar so im guessing there are synths involved in this song. the lyrics are really catchy and the guitar solo feels so energetic. (im tapping my feet to it) not much more to say about this song except to listen to it cus im jamming to this song to much to explain anything else.

You Carried Us (Share With Me the sun): it sounds really far away and yet loud i dont know im puzzled as to where this songs reverb sounds like maybe like a hallway of a gym? the guitar is very far away and the effects in this song are just right to make it sound really strange and im still confused as to what i can compare this to because there is a war of sounds getting louder and softer and this is happening at what seems to be random and im really ripped in this song. there are lots of looping and just the right amount of awe.

Everything You See (Kids Count Halleluahs): i dont know if thats a trumpet or if thats a synth (lets hope its a trumpet) and now they really messed with the vocals he sounds like hes drowning... and the voice effect is gone. the acoustic gutar is constantly playing and the drum is constantly repeating the same pitter patter. i guess the feeling you get in this song is revolving around in slow motion in and out.

All Your Light (Times Like These): "woo wo wow wo wo wo" that was my interpretation of what the intro sounds would look like if they were typed. then "bam bam bam bam" goes the piano hammering down hard. drums are constant. "Im just a shadow of a bigger man" first vocals and the lyrics look really meaningful so if i were you id read the lyrics to the music. the deep voices are so awesome and just an awesome new touch to the album. there are new sounds being incorperated in this song at every ten seconds. ahhhhhhh the guitar solo loud filtered and full of reverb. whoa that little drumm after the solo was amazing whyd it stop? i hate that when you hear something amazing and it could be a transition of epic proportions but it stops. its like wtf dude that was awesome whyd you stop... continue doing that!

Once Was One: acoustic. drums come in. really deep vocals. this is probably the thinest song in the album and thats saying something because there is still alot going on. there are parts in the song when you can hear vocals and guitars only which is surprising hearing the rest of the album full of sounds from the first second to the last of each song prior to this one.

Share With me the Sun: the first time i hear no loops. wait neverming it started looping. im not saying the looping sucks but you can appreciate the vocal falsetto alot more without the looping and the filters and effects and this guy has really great falsettos for a man, the ending sounds as if a radio was playing the song and fading away.

Sleep Forever: ok i hear guitar from "people say" but now that he starts singing i hear nothing much similar to it since his voice has a flange connected to it. the lyrics are similar to "people say" but this song is alot more tame then "people say" and the guitar has more to it. i like the song but the song isnt as thick compare tho the other songs or as vibrant as the other songs. The song does progress very nicely though and i really love the touch of stringed instruments in this song (since i play violin). this song may be six minuits long but it ends to quickly and it should fade out a little better thats my only complaint.

This album is a masters work of art and i love the first track. i think this album is worthy of a best of 2011 title. this album overall is energetic, it has alot of thickness and it feels fresh very fresh for a band who is already in their seventh album. this band should be comemorated for the work they do releasing albums every year and good albums not straight fillers like some bands (*cough* 311 *cough*) not naming anybody. this album is very refreshing and what can you expect from an alaskan band? not much but they have A majestic sound to them and it would be a pity if this album isnt heard much. i recommend it to anyone who listens to Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, Circa Survive, minus the bear, sharks keep moving, and wild orchard children. i rate this 7000 out of 1,000000000000000000 im just playing i dont rate remember?
