Overview of The Fall by Gorillaz

This is an old post from my other blog im going to delete so i brought my only album review or rather overview since i didnt go into song reviewing.... Enjoy.

Album oveRview:

While Radiohead is soon to release The king of the limbs “the worlds first newspaper album,” Gorillaz has released “the worlds first Ipad album” created on the Ipad while on tour in the USA and mixed in London on Dec. 25 of 2010 for sub-division fans only with a physical release projected for sometime in 2011. Damon Albarn, the genius behind Gorillaz, recorded all of the songs while on the plastic beach world tour in the USA. Damon stated on the site “The music was recorded during spare time while on the road. I did it because there’s a lot of time that you just spend staring at walls essentially and it was a fantastic way of doing it. I found working in the day, whether it’s in the hotel or in the venue, it was a brilliant way of keeping myself well.” Later he said, “The collection is...like a diary, I literally wrote everything on the day in each place and there’s a strange sort of sound of America and its musical traditions that comes through. It feels like a journey through America”. You can tell that he made it in America because of the titles of the tracks such as “Phoner to Arizona”, “Detroit”, “The Snake in Dallas”, “Bobby in Phoenix”, “California and the Slipping Sun”, and “Seattle Yodel.” The pictures in the album are also really catchy and show the American landscape and spirit. The overall sound of the album is like a journal of the music styles of various cities in North America. The song “Revolving Doors” has a simple guitar refrain that is very catchy the song explains much about his day on tour at Boston he says in one line that he recalls “...On a foggy day...I sit in a diner, and The Beatles play”. In the song “Aspen Forest” there are sounds of a stream and simple melodies coming from the bass and qanun, It may be an instrumental but it really captures the sound of the Aspen Basin Santa Fe National Forest and the sound of nature without the imperfection of cars honking and air conditioners buzzing. The song “Little Pink Plastic Bags” is about how Albarn, who wrote the album Plastic beach earlier that year, wrote about pollution. In Chicago he finds that there is a lot and he wrote the song in response to this horror. This album is a true master piece and should be listened to even if Pitchfork gives this album a really crappy review stating “The Fall is a blur. Whether as an album or as a touring document, it doesn't add up to much of a statement, which means the particulars of its creation will probably always overshadow whatever life this album may find.” In response to this I will state this “touring document” is a great album and a win for Gorillaz and, in my opinion, should be listened to because of the variety of influences and sounds this album captures, it captures the sound of North America and for the Gorillaz to achieve this feat is an amazing accomplishment because in only a few months, Gorillaz were able to soak in and make something unique out of it and not many music acts can accomplish this.
