I'm sorry I actually ment to post notes on giving me some..........money. whoa.... what you thought I was gonna say you perv? Anyway this is another late album review but I'm glad I'm doing it because this will be on my best albums of 2011 list for sure. One thing I noticed that was different from living thing is the style changed. The songs on this album are brighter, faster and more complex overall and more songs are danceable. Not only that but Pb&j are one of the biggest indie bands o exist they are indie. If you hear pb&j you automatically think indie or the song young folks an indie anthem. With 'gimme some' they are moving indie to a new direction.
1. Tomorrow has to wait: the bright guitars are followed up by booming drums and his not so booming voice. The lyrics are beyond clever, they are well fitted into the song and the chorus. Such a lovely chorus I feel the whole room collapsing when the chorus starts. Its a great opener of what's to come in this album.
2. Dig a little deeper: like firing gun shots, the drums bang bang bang and kill all the way to your ears and punish you with the sharp glamorous beach style guitar riffs right behind em. Then the vocals start and the vocals come in a group with nice deep back up vocals. The lyrics are amazing, profound, glazed in anonymously groovy bass, beach style riff, gun shooting drums and a slight Swedish accent almost unheard if not listening to closely.
3. Second chance: "boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom bang" my interpretation of what a typed version of the intro would be. The song starts and its already loud and IN YOUR FACE like "WHAT YOU LOOKIN AT!?" But in a not so threatening way. The music is amazing right its down right amazing and the song would be great if the lyrics were "abcd 123" but no they spoil us with lyrics full of imagery, metaphors, and similes. Its a rad song with a rad beat with rad lyrics listen to it to enjoy the awesome.
4. Eyes: My favorite song in this album. This is grandiose the surf glamed guitars blazing the drudrudrudrums the bass and the vocals taylored perfectly with back up vocals and just a good touch of clamping. This is a song you surf to I live far from sea but this song make it seem I'm at a beach house yards away from the water.
5. Breaker breaker: super quick drum rolling fast as lightning, the thunder comes quick too with a quick bass and guitar duo battle. This guitar is so epic, fast, an plain amazing. If this doesn't say "surf" idk what does. My only complaint is the fact that its too short arrrg! Man its only a min 39 and its got so much potential.
6. May seem macabre: slow start for this abum. Nice bright guitars, the bass teasing and then finally going full blast. The lyrics are a little tamer and under control. The song pauses during the "may seem macabre but its beautiful" part I'm gonna need to make up a word for this wait I got one gratisfication (inside vocabulary see angles review).
7. (Don't let them) cool off: the guitars remind me of the old vintage bass filled guitar style from the 50's most noted in the Ritchie valens & buddy holly fame. Deep vocals are dominant its like a song that you'd play in an action film with motorcycles and explosions.
8. Black book: punk rock style guitars/ vocals... nice they really got into American rock didn't they? That's my opinion anyway.
9. Down like me: vintage sounding. From the rock n roll era seriously I swear they got into 50's American rock. You can hear it in this song.
10. Lies: catchy vocals nice vocals. Is he making fun of Abraham Lincoln? Man I haven't heard so many American references in one album that wasn't American. Its short and ends quickly.
11. I know you don't love me: the title seems sad but the constant tappering of the drums, the glam guitar, and deep bass are saying otherwise. Deep vocals filtered. I can hardly hear it but the songs catchy and I'm surprised as to how much I actually like this song and this is one of my least favorite songs.
Can a modern Swedish indie band sound like a 50's rock n roll band? Have you heard this album? Are you going to answer my questions? Well all the answers you need will be in the album (and by commenting below) but really get the album get it its my favorite pb&j album. No fillers just great songs.
Recommends: grizzly bear, the national, Phoenix, interpol,& arcade fire.
